Professor Dr. Ahmed AlSultani published an article entitled “Temporal dynamic drought interpretation of Sawa Lake: case study located at the Southern Iraqi region” in a Dutch journal indexed in Scopus database, Q1, CiteScore 4.9. The paper highlighted Sawa Lake as a historical, cultural, and environmental landmark of great importance for its unique features that make it a potential World Natural Heritage. The study dealt with the evaluation and interpretation of the actual causes of the low water level in Sawa Lake, which began to drop dramatically in an unprecedented way. Remote sensing data were used as time series and radar data to study the topographic status of the lake and its surroundings, as well as climatic data and SPEI index. The research concluded to identify a number of factors that contributed to the drying up of the lake and the decrease in the water level. Recommendations were required to restore the water level to its normal levels.
