The Department of Regional Planning at the Faculty of Urban Planning held a panel discussion entitled “The Resilient City: Resilient City, Concept and Importance” on Wednesday, 4/1/2023, through the Google Meet platform.
The episode aims to:
Clarification of the concept of the flexible city as one of the modern concepts that appeared in the writings and practices related to the organization of urbanization, especially after the frequent occurrence of natural disasters, incidents of terrorism, and the spread of waves of economic recession, which affected many cities.
The lecturer, M.M. Osama Jassem Al-Mashrafawi, urban expansion and its challenges after the acceleration of urban growth in developing countries, introducing the concept of resilience and the flexible city and identifying its characteristics, the most important challenges facing achieving the resilience of the city, and finally identifying the most important international experiences in achieving the resilience of cities.
The seminar reached the conclusion that the resilience of cities is not only concerned with reconstruction after crises, but rather is the ability of city systems to anticipate these crises and disasters and avoid them as much as possible or adapt to them and recover from them. Forecasting them, and laying down the foundations and plans necessary to adapt to them.
