The Department of Urban Planning at the Faculty of Urban Planning, University of Kufa, held two seminars for the department’s teachers, on Wednesday 12-14-2022, which were attended by the head of the Urban Planning Department and the department’s teachers.
The first episode included a presentation by Prof. Dr. (Hassan Jabbar Humeem) entitled (Human Development and the Dual Environmental Footprint that Leads to Sustainability), during which the lecturer talked about the environmental footprint as a concept that is widely used around the world to support sustainability assessments, as it allows people to measure and manage their use of resources during The economy also explores the sustainability of individual lifestyles, goods, services, institutions, industrial sectors, neighborhoods, cities, and countries. In his lecture, the researcher presented a developmental classification of countries based on the gap diagnosed in the environmental footprint, whether in relation to natural resources or economic activity.
While the second panel discussion was presented by Assistant Professor (Abdul Karim Muhammad Baqer Al-Shamaa) and tagged (Using GFRP bars in concrete reinforcement), as the glass fiber reinforced polymer is one of the construction products with high added value. It is a cost-effective building material with the full potential to extend the life of public structures where corrosion can have a huge economic and environmental impact. With rising corrosion due to global warming, The lecture touched on the advantages of this material and its difference from the iron used in constructions through its ability and resistance to corrosion and its light weight and through its being a material that does not conduct electricity and heat, which makes it an ideal choice for facilities such as power plants and scientific facilities, adding that this material is a cost-effective product compared to steel Epoxy coated or stainless steel and it is not exposed to chloride ions and other chemical elements.
