College of Physical Planning holds a scientific workshop entitled “Regional planning and its role in organizing administrative units”

The Department of Regional Planning, in cooperation with the Department of Regional and Local Development in An Najaf province, held a scientific workshop about “Regional planning and its role in organizing administrative units” on Tuesday 24/5/2022.

The workshop aims to shed light on the importance of regional planning in defining administrative units and familiarizing students with the planning procedures and requirements necessary to change or create new administrative units, as well as the need to preserve agricultural lands.

 The workshop included two lectures. Prof. Dr. Taqi Raad Jawad addressed in the first one the importance of regional planning and shed light on its pivotal role in planning and dividing administrative units in line with the developmental potentials of those units. While Chief Engineers Muhannad Taher Judeh dealt in the second lecture  the practical experiences and the accompanying procedures in creating and raising the degree of administrative units in An Najaf region.

The workshop reached a number of recommendations, including:

1- Emphasis on reconsidering planning standards by the executive authorities to adopt geographic information systems technology. 2- Activating the role of regional planning and establishing spatial regional plans before embarking on planning or changing administrative units by appointing a specialized staff and using the latest regional technologies and theories.
